These days it’s hard to imagine a world without “Safety Dance” or “Pop Goes The World” but back in 1977 in Montreal Canada when Ivan Doroschuk started then punk rock turned New Wave outfit “Men Without Hats” he surely only dreamed he would write the 2 globally recognized smash hits and definitely had no idea his songs would be heard everywhere from McDonalds restaurant ads, Alaska airlines commercials to multi media Super bowl campaigns not to mention the now infamous Tide pods “Pop Goes World” campaign and the global soccer chant at UEFA Euro 2024!

Back then Ivan was joined by his brother Colin Doroschuk for the better part of the 80’s along with a host of other talented musicians, Ivan being the main songwriter and constant throughout the years. With a long string of successful album releases and a 2020 induction into the Canadian songwriters hall of fame we fast forward to 2023 where, as if it was meant to be, the Men Without Hats family ties would come full circle when replacing brother Colin Doroschuk on keyboards was his lovely and extremely talented daughter Sahara Sloan.

Recently Ivan has been working in studio writing and recording with Grammy & Juno award winning producer Brian Howes. These song will be included on a brand new MWH album set for release In November 2025. The first fantastically fun single “I Love the ‘80s” hit radio in June, receiving massive amounts of airplay in the US and Europe.  As if that’s not enough the band also recorded performances from a 2024 tour for a new live album that includes all the hits and was just released Feb. 21, 2025 both on vinyl and all streaming platforms.

Now with the album release looming, Men Without Hats drop the second single from the album, “In Glorious Days”.  According to Ivan, “In Glorious Days”  was my first experience with truly collaborative writing. I found working with Brian effortless. The direction and flow of the song came so naturally. The result is what I believe to be an amazing hybrid of the classic MWH sound with a new modern synth-wave sonic sensibility. I can’t wait to play In Glorious Days live for our fans. I have a feeling it’s going to be a new crowd favorite!

I Love the 80’s is the new single and it’s a definite sing a long tune!

De nos jours, il est difficile d’imaginer un monde sans « Safety Dance » ou « Pop Goes The World », mais en 1977 à Montréal, Canada, quand Ivan Doroschuk a fondé le groupe punk rock devenu New Wave,  Men Without Hats, sûrement qu’il n’avait pas rêver d’écrire seulement ces deux tubes mondialement reconnus et n’avait probablement aucune idée que ses chansons seraient entendues partout, des publicités des restaurants McDonald’s aux publicités d’Alaska Airlines, en passant par les campagnes multimédias du Super Bowl, sans oublier la désormais célèbre campagne « Pop Goes World » des capsules Tide et le chant mondial du football lors de l’UEFA Euro 2024 !

Au début de sa carrière, Ivan était accompagné de son frère Colin Doroschuk pendant la majeure partie des années 80, ainsi que de nombreux autres musiciens talentueux. Toutefois, Ivan était le principal compositeur et un membre constant au fil des ans. Après une longue série d’albums à succès et une intronisation au Panthéon des auteurs-compositeurs canadiens en 2020, nous voici en 2023 où, les liens familiaux des Men Without Hats se sont renoués et Colin Doroschuk a été remplacé aux claviers par sa charmante et très talentueuse fille, Sahara Sloan.

Récemment, Ivan a travaillé en studio à l’écriture et à l’enregistrement avec le producteur Brian Howes, lauréat d’un Grammy et d’un Juno. Ces chansons figureront sur un tout nouvel album de MWH, dont la sortie est prévue en novembre 2025. Le premier single, super amusant, « I Love the ‘80s », a été diffusé massivement à la radio en juin, aux États-Unis et en Europe. Comme si cela ne suffisait pas, le groupe a également enregistré des performances lors d’une tournée en 2024 pour un nouvel album live reprenant tous les tubes, sorti le 21 février 2025 en vinyle et sur toutes les plateformes de streaming.

Alors que la sortie de l’album approche à grands pas, Men Without Hats sort le deuxième single de l’album, « In Glorious Days ». D’après Ivan, « In Glorious Days » a été sa première expérience d’écriture véritablement collaborative. “Travailler avec Brian  a été une expérience très naturelle. La direction et le rythme du morceau sont venus si naturellement. Le résultat est, je crois, un incroyable mélange du son classique de MWH avec une nouvelle sensibilité sonore synth-wave moderne. J’ai hâte de jouer « In Glorious Days » en live pour nos fans. J’ai le sentiment que ce sera un nouveau coup de cœur !”
